I just love going to all the different El Salvador shopping malls, plazas and markets. Well, for one thing, I love shopping, but shopping in El Salvador is really great.

There is such a great variety of stores, and products to buy, whether you are looking for local stuff or more internationally known brands – it’s all here!

There is great shopping all around El Salvador, no matter where you happen to be. There are great little stores tucked away in every city and small town you visit but some of the best shopping malls are in San Salvador. So let's talk about shopping in El Salvador - one of my favourite things to do!

Shopping in San Salvador

If you are looking for North American style shopping centers, then you must try shopping in San Salvador. San Salvador is home to the best shopping malls in the country, including the largest shopping mall in Central America.

These El Salvador shopping malls offer their guests a great shopping experience and the convenience of being able to find and do everything under one roof. Everything from department stores, restaurants, food courts, bars and movie theaters – are all found here.

Here is a little sample of the shopping centers you can find in San Salvador…

• Centro Comercial Multiplaza
• Centro Comercial Galerias Escalón
• Centro Comercial Las Cascadas
• Centro Comercial La Gran Vía
• Centro Comercial Metrocentro

Getting to these shopping areas is a breeze; they are all in great areas with easy access by bus, car and taxi.

If you are staying in a hotel in San Salvador, then chances are you are staying close to one of these shopping malls. Metrocentro,for example, is just across the road from the Real Intercontinental Hotel. I guess it’s one of the advantages of being in a very small country – everything is close by.

Of course there are other places to shop at and other little boutiques where you can find great stuff and great deals. Soon we will share with you some of our favourite places to shop in El Salvador.

I don’t know about you, but I always look to buy some souvenirs to bring back home as mementos of the trip. There are 2 excellent places to get find the best souvenirs, arts and crafts. Here you will find everything from key chains to more elaborate hand woven textiles…

Shopping in other areas of El Salvador

If you are staying in or near Santa Ana and San Miguel – do not worry, there is excellent El Salvador shopping there too!

Santa Ana and San Miguel are the 2 most important cities in El Salvador after the capital city of San Salvador. So there are great things to do there and… great shopping at smaller boutiques and larger shopping centers such as Metrocentro - which makes shopping much more difficult – so much to choose from ;-) (The ladies know what I’m talking about!)

El Salvador shopping is sure to surprise you with all the stylish shopping malls and the great variety of smaller boutiques and stores. You can find just about anything here – it’s true.

At larger establishments, the price you see is the price you pay – but if you shop at a smaller store, you may be able to bargain you way into really good deals. I’m not very good at bargaining and not very successful, but it’s definitely worth a try!

If you want to try your hand with street vendors – now you really have to polish your bargaining skills before you give it a go. They are tough, and the prices are set a bit higher so they have some padding for the bargaining – so don’t pay the first price they tell you. Make sure you bargain, bargain, bargain!
