El Salvador Fishing
El Salvador fishing has been left basically untouched for many, many years so the fish have had time to grow old and big!
But in the last few years El Salvador has started making a name for itself as a fishing destination, so I want to tell you about some of the best fishing spots in El Salvador. Los CóbanosMaybe you know that Los Cóbanos is a great destination for scuba diving and snorkeling but did you know that it's also a great for fishing?
As a matter of fact, Los Cóbanos was born as a fishing community and fishing still is a major source of business there. Some of the best sport fishing can be done with Fish El Salvador, one of the most popular fishing tours company in El Salvador. I say they are one of the best because they know the right places to go fishing so you can catch "the one" fish you've been looking for. Fish El Salvador is based right in Los Cóbanos, so they know the area very well.. With them you can do reef fishing, shore/rock fishing, deep sea fishing for the big blue marlin. They are pretty accommodating for big and small fishing groups, so they are a good choice. If you love fishing, you are going to like fishing with them!
As you know, deep sea fishing is great for catching Blue Marlin, Sailfish and Dorado (Mahi Mahi), and believe me, the fish are big and plentyful here! See the picture of a Blue Marlin on the left? There are certain times of the day when deep sea fishing is best, so it's always best to spend a few hours, maybe a half day or even a full day out at sea.
Deep sea fishing also provides the opportunity to see other marine life like sea turtles and dolphins.
It's great to see dolphins jumping in and out of the water as if they were putting up a show for their visitors! Here is a picture of some of them.If you are like me and do not like to venture out in the deep sea, we can try reef fishing, which is great for catching Mackerel, Barracuda and Snappers. Reef fishing is best between December-May in this area. Shore/rock fishing can be done close to coral beaches in Los Cóbanos, where cliffs make great casting spots for the strong Rooster fish and Jacks. El Salvador fishing tour companies, like Fish El Salvador, offers fishing trips to the best sport fishing areas in the country. These companies are run by locals who really know their fishing and where the best catches are. So, setting up a fishing trip with one of them would make the experience more enjoyable and successful.
Jaltepeque Estuary - Costa del Sol
Another great El Salvador fishing spot is the Jaltepeque estuary in Costa del Sol. This estuary's rich eco-system has mangroves, beaches and small creeks that all combined make this a great spot for sport fishing. In this area you can expect to catch the Pompano, Rooster and Mackerel fish.
The Costa del Sol area is well developed for tourists and has many hotels, resorts, restaurants and there are so many other activities to do here too. Fishing CompetitionsEl Salvador fishing is so good that 2 fishing competitions are held in these waters, both at the Bahia del Sol Hotel & Marina. One of them is the Presidential Challenge Tournament, and also the International Billfish Tournament in which countries like United States, South Africa and other Central American countries compete. I must say that I was not very familiar with El Salvador fishing before, although I am originally from there. But now I realize that this can be such a great and rewarding experience. But everyone I've talked to who has fished El Salvador's coastal waters, say that it is one of (if not the best) fishing experiences they've had. And many of them are repeat visitors, they keep coming back to these beautiful fishing areas!
So, whether it's fishing for Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Snappers or Rooster fish; you can find them all here. If you are a fishing lover, you might want to give these waters a try before the rest of the world does! Related Topics...
