Travellers come to El Salvador from all over the world and for many different reasons and now that El Salvador has been voted by Lonely Planet as 1 of the top 10 countries to visit in 2010, even more people will discover this tiny country. Some come to visit friends and relatives, others on business and others come in search of an exciting, fun and relaxing vacation while still others choose El Salvador as their honeymoon destination. Things to keep in mind when choosing place to stay in
El Salvador- El Salvador is a small country and using that to our advantage... we make quick day trips to other parts of the country and then return to our accommodations. Unless you specifically want to stay over night somewhere else, I think it is a good idea to be based in
San Salvador and from there travel to wherever you want to go. - If you are looking for a cheap hotel, make sure you check the establishment, especially outside of San Salvador. Some places are not well maintained or may not be located in good areas, you may decide after seeing the room that you do want to spend the night in it.
- We would definitely recommend not spending the night in areas such as Soyapango, Ilopango, San Marcos. Although the hotels may be clean and reputable, these are not the best and safest areas in
San Salvador. It’s OK if you are staying with friends, but caution is still recommended, especially at night as these areas are known for gang activity. - The 3 busiest months for El Salvador hotels are: December, Easter break (March/April) and August. Many people choose one of these 3 months to visit family and friends for these holidays – so it’s busy! Beach hotels, in particular are very busy and crowded as families choose to spend a few days and sometimes even a full week at the beach, so hotel staff will be rushed.
- There are many beach hotels in El Salvador that offer full packages. Be sure to ask the front desk before paying, you may be able to get a good deal on a package.
- The best time to go to a beach hotel in El Salvador and be treated "like a star" is November or January (just before and after Christmas) – January is my favourite time, hotel staff is more relaxed and because they have more time and less guests, they take extra good care of the guests they do have.
El Salvador hotels near the International Airport (SAL)Your best bet would be the Quality Hotel Real Aeropuerto – only a few minutes from the airport and about 30 minutes from San Salvador. The beautiful rooms and friendly staff make this a great option if you are looking to stay near the airport – great for early morning flights!
Our experience has been that El Salvador hotels really appreciate the business brought to them so they will do everything they can to ensure your stay is comfortable and that you, at the end of your stay, are happy and willing to come back. Yes, El Salvador is a small country but it sure is full of beautiful places to see, exciting things to do and great places to stay.
