News Headlines

Arbitro Salvadoreño heading to the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa: Not only is Joel Antonio Castillo the first Salvadorian ever to be selected by FIFA to participate in a World Cup but he will also be the youngest referee in the tournament.

He and his 2 assistant referees will travel to South Africa in May to prepare for the World Cup, good for them! OK, so El Salvador did not qualify to play at the World Cup but... it will sure have a strong presence in the games!

Turicentro Apulo: The project to rebuild this amazing tourist attraction in El Salvador has begun and it promises to be even better than before!

The new and improved Turicentro Apulo will have new cafeterias, picnic areas, playground for children and will also be wheel chair accessible. The pier will also be renovated.

Apulo will remain open during the renovation work, so if you are in San Salvador, be sure to stop by and enjoy a boat tour around the Ilopango Lake... or how about a diving tour?

In March

The National Dance Academy in El Salvador is hosting free dance shows: Free dance shows in the most unusual places - public squares and plazas! Last week the young dancers performed at Plaza Barrios in San Salvador, on March 12th they will perform in San Marin, the 17th in Mejicanos and the 26th in Chalatenango.

All the shows are scheduled for the morning and the tour will continue to the East after the Easter holiday. See photo gallery by El Diario de Hoy.

El Salsero Luis Enrique will be performing in San Salvador: Next Friday March 19th, 2010. The great salsa singer will be performing the songs that made him famous as well as "Ciclos" from his new album which won him a Grammy, 2 Latin Grammys and 2 Premios Lo Nuestro.

This concert promises to be awesome, so if you are going to be in town, this one is not to be missed!!!

Featured Hot Spot

San Vicente: In San Vicente you can enjoy great outdoor trips and experiences. Amapulapa is one of the most popular tourist attractions in San Vicente. This beautiful complex of outdoor swimming pools really bring a new meaning to "tropical paradise".

Another great place to visit is Laguna de Apastepeque. It's just a mere 15k east of San Vicente along the PanAmerican hwy. You can spend a great day or afternoon in this place. The lagoon is great for swimming, but what I enjoy the most is just sitting on a lounge chair, taking in the sun and the warm breeze.

The town of Apastepeque is also quite an experience, it is very simalar to Suchitoto, with very old colonial style architecture. Oh, and of course, if you go by the San Vicente detour (desvio de San Vicente) be sure to try that delicious grilled meat with tortillas from the street vendors ;-)
