Great tips and information on El Salvador

Having travelled there many times, you can say I’ve got some useful tips and information on El Salvador that can help make the vacation go smoother. Now I would like to share that information with you!

I always like to find out as much as possible about any of the places I’m thinking of visiting, so if you are like me, you will find the following information on El Salvador very useful for your vacation planning.

Health

These days, we really have to be diligent and do our homework to find information on health concerns and tips that can help us stay healthy during our vacation. Many of these tips are things we can do ourselves to prevent us getting sick.

Being that El Salvador is a tropical country, there are some vaccines that I always have to think and talk to my doctor about. And with the H1N1 flu hitting people all over the world, we need to make sure we take this seriously (I say "better safe than sorry"!)

It is also a good idea to consult with your medical insurance company prior to travelling to El Salvador to confirm whether your insurance will cover you on any unexpected health emergencies while in El Salvador.

Safety

El Salvador has developed a bad rep for safety concerns; I guess I’ll have to admit that some things are true but others are greatly exaggerated.

I’ve put together a list of safety tips we’ve learned over the years that help us to stay safe and to avoid putting ourselves in bad situations. And I must say, we’ve never had any problems.

You know, I’ve talked to many tourists and I always hear that they never felt unsafe while touring the country and that common sense has a lot to do with keeping safe. Be sure to read this important information on El Salvador safety that I’m sharing with you, it can definitely help to make your vacation more enjoyable.

Currency and Money Matters

Of course, we can’t forget about money – our good old friend that we can’t live without!

Now, believe it or not, this is one of the easiest parts of vacationing in El Salvador. As of 2001 the US dollar is the “every-day” currency in El Salvador so once you have your US money – no more currency exchanging is necessary!

Since (some would say) I have some experience in “spending” money in El Salvador, I want to share with you some information on how to deal with the currency in El Salvador that I find very useful to keep in mind. Hopefully it can also help you get an idea of what you’ll need to do about money in El Salvador.

Cell Phones

Cell phone coverage is very good in El Salvador and there are many companies that offer this service now. In fact, I’ve noticed that some hotels even offer El Salvador cell phones for local calls for their guests so whenever making a reservation, make sure to ask them.

You can also take your own cell phone which will work in El Salvador but roaming charges will apply so ask your service provider about roaming fees. Trust me; ask before you use your own phone. One time my bother forgot to ask his cell phone company about it and he got a big cell phone bill the next month!

Driving in El Salvador

Driving in El Salvador can be a little intimidating, at least it is for me so I choose not to drive when I'm there. My theory is... why go through the unnecessary stress, after all, I'm on vacation!

But many people like to rent a car which makes going to the interior of the country easier. Renting a car in El Salvador is quite easy, so that's an option too if you're thinking of going off the beaten path.

I've shared some of my secrets with you here and I hope this information on El Salvador gives you an good feel on what to expect and then plan your vacation accordingly.

...Now you can start planning!
