Explore Cuscatlan Park - a beautiful urban park in San Salvador

Cuscatlan Park is one of the most popular parks in El Salvador. It is one of San Salvador's largest parks and is considered to be one of city’s main “lungs”, it is located just a few blocks from the historic area in San Salvador.

Because of its location, it serves as an oasis from the traffic jams and city noise. Surrounded by greenery and large tropical trees, it’s the perfect place for a quick reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Parque Cuscatlán As you can see in the picture (taken from Alameda Roosevelt)the park sits below street level.

It is surrounded by embankments topped with walls and it has 4 entry points that lead to the park’s central area.

There are plenty of benches for people to sit and relax and there are also many options for other activities inside the park.

This is a popular spot with locals where they play friendly soccer matches and also shoot some hoops. This is also a popular spot for avid runners and joggers.

Cuscatlan Park is a great place to visit. In it are located several great
El Salvador attractions. One of them is the Salarrué National Exhibition Hall which showcases local and international contemporary art.

National Exhibition HallThe Hall is named after the well known Salvadorean artist Salvador Salazar Arrué (Salarrué for short) as he was the one who originally persuaded the city to build an exhibition hall in the park.

The National Exhibition Hall was opened to the public in 1959. It is open Tuesday – Sunday 9am-12pm & 1pm-5pm (closed between 12 and 1pm).

Here is a nice shot of the park taken from the Salarrué National Exhibition Hall.

Another one of El Salvador attractions is located on the north side of the park, is the memorial wall “Monumento a la Memoria y la Verdad” (Monument to the Memory and Truth).

The granite wall bears the names of about 25,000 people who either died or went missing during the civil conflict of the 1980’s. The memorial wall is very similar to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC.

During San Salvador’s local festivities in August and in December, Cuscatlan Park is transformed into a “concert park” where local and foreign artists show off their talents.

There are live theater shows, live music, juggling competitions and so many more things for all to enjoy.

This is a really fun time to visit Cuscatlán Park with friends and also for families with children.

Street vendors are set up in many places around the park year round. The area often fills up with the delicious aroma of pupusas.

It is good to keep in mind though, that care must be taken when buying food from street vendors as proper care may not have been taken when preparing the food (but the smell is so tempting though!)

As you can see in the map below, Cuscatlan Park is a green oasis right in the heart of San Salvador.

Cuscatlan Park is located near Hospital Rosales (San Salvador's main hospital) and it has an entry point on Alameda Roosevelt and another one on 25th Avenida Sur. Its central location makes it easy to get there either on foot or by bus.

This is San Salvador’s landmark “Central Park” so be sure to stop by and see what makes it a great place to visit for both locals and tourists.
