I think it’s best that we all find out as much as we can about where we want to travel. Being a tropical country, El Salvador deals with common ailments and viruses like all tropical and sub-tropical regions. Two of the most common concerns are dengue fever and if you will be visiting rural areas also malaria. The one thing that really bugs me about going there is “the bugs”, mosquitoes, fruit flies and flies. One of the most important things to consider is whether we need to have the vaccinations for El Salvador that are recommended by health authorities because our bodies can react to different foods and climate. So it is a good idea to check with your doctor whether you may need to get vaccinations for El Salvador. These are the ones most often recommended by doctors: - Malaria

- Tetanus/Diphtheria - recommended every 10 years

- It is not a good idea to buy food from street vendors, when hungry or if you want to try some of the tasty dishes, go to a restaurant and ensure you wash your hands well before eating. If you are thirsty, ensure you buy bottled water only
- It is common to see street vendors selling water in plastic bags, but keep in mind that it may be contaminated and may make you sick
