Take your family on holidays in
El Salvador... what can the kids do?

Families with children can have awesome holidays in El Salvador too. Family vacations are always so much fun and so full of memories for the kids that they'll remember even years later.

There are so many things to do and see that children will love, it can turn into a very exciting vacation for them. If you have children, the following are just some of the places to keep in mind when planing your holidays in El Salvador.

  • El Mundo Felíz (Happy World)
  • Saburo Hirao National Park
  • Tin Marín Children's Museum

El Mundo Felíz

El Mundo Feliz El Mundo Felíz (Happy World) Amusement Park is near the Metrocentro Shopping Center on Blvd de Los Héroes. This is a great spot where kids can let loose and have all the fun they want, run around as much as they want and just have a blast!

El Mundo Felíz is a type of “Chuck E. Cheese’s” amusement park, so if you’ve ever been to one of those, you know what I’m talking about.

There are all kinds of mechanical games and rides, from flying airplanes to bumper cars and many other arcade type of games.

Mundo Feliz bumper cars Our holidays in El Salvador always include a visit to Mundo Felíz.

My son always has a blast here, there are so many things to do and so many games to play that he never knows what to try first.

The first time he went he decided to try the airplanes, so he went for a few rides on that; after we tried the motorcycles and bumper cars.

Well, needless to say, after a couple of hours of walking around, mom (me) needed a break, so we decided to go and have some snacks – which are also available right on site.

So after a few minutes and a nice cup of Salvadorean coffee, I was ready to go on and try some of the other rides and games. So we ended our visit to Mundo Felíz a few hours later and decided to head down to Pizza Hut, just a few doors down, and get our energy back (ok, I needed to get my energy back).

This is such a popular spot for families with children of all ages and it’s been a landmark for so many years now that it’s really worth a visit when touring San Salvador.

Saburo Hirao National Park

Saburo Hirao National Park garden When planning holidays in El Salvador, always make time to visit the Saburo Hirao National Park.

This park is named after a Japanese businessman who resided in El Salvador and made contributions towards the construction of this park back in the 1970's.

As you can see in this picture, the Japanese influence can be seen throughout the park.

This Park is so great for kids and all in a natural setting. Here children of all ages can have fun on the slides, swings, castles, wind towers, labyrinths and so much more. This is really the place for family fun.

I remember going to Saburo Hirao as a child and I was so amazed at all the great stuff there is to do. I remember my favourite thing to do there was sliding down those steep toboggans!

Saburo Hirao tobogans Now these are not your typical toboggans; these are made from cement and depending on the age, the length and height of the slides vary as well!

And let me tell you, they are so much fun! There are some for young children and some for the older ones as well – these ones are steeper… fun!

The Park is in a natural setting with over 75 different types of trees as well as a great variety of birds and other small wild animals.

Saburo Hirao is so much better now then when I was a child though. This year, the city is working on several improvement projects in the park. They will be adding a gazebo in the commemorative area of the park as well as posts with hooks for hammocks and grilling tables so families can bring their own food and have a cookout!

Museum of Natural History of El Salvador Now, for a bit of an educational side to your holidays in El Salvador, be sure to visit the Museum of Natural History of El Salvador.<.p>

It is located inside the Saburo Hirao National Park grounds.

This museum boasts 10 different collections such as the Botanical, Genealogy, Paleontology and others I can’t recall at the moment, but you get the idea.

There is also the small "Chibico Tosyokan" library, which focuses on children’s literature both local and international.

Saburo Hirao National Park is located on Calle Los Viveros, Colonia Nicaragua, San Salvador. If you are ever visiting El Salvador with children, be sure to stop by, they’ll love it!

Tin Marín Children's Museum

Tim Marin Children's Museum The Tin Marín Children’s Museum was specifically designed to make learning fun, and fun children are bound to have! It is filled with great, exciting activities that kids can participate in.

Children can start off by boarding an airplane and participating in emergency drills and some can take turns at “taking off” and even climb a fire truck!

It also gives children the opportunity to see the “inside” of a TV by becoming a news anchor for a few minutes, or even learn how electricity works.

Tin Marin Museum El Salvador Those who like science will find the volcano section interesting, where they can learn what makes volcanoes erupt and how it happens.

Children can also learn about butterflies when visiting the butterfly sanctuary.

The Tin Marín Museum also has a planetarium section where children can make use of the telescope and find the major constellations and maybe even see some of the other planets' moons.

The Museum also has a nice area with activities for pre-school children. There is something for all ages, so children can have a blast and learn not just about science but also about the culture of El Salvador.

Tin Marin Museum hospital Children never run out of things to do here. They can take over the hospital and become a doctor, go grocery shopping and so much more.

The Tin Marín Museum is located in Cuscatlán Park in San Salvador.

They have guided tours Tuesday to Friday from 9am - 1pm and 2pm – 5pm and weekends from 9am – 1pm and 2pm – 6pm.

General admission is $2.00; Planetarium admission is $1.00 or you can opt for the “combo admission” for $2.50 which includes access to the Planetarium.

So holidays in El Salvador are not just fun but can also be educational for the kids.

These are just 3 places that children can visit to run around and have a great time. It also gives parents the chance to sit back and relax a little, knowing that the children are enjoying themselves.

Holidays in El Salvador are great for everyone, now that the children have had some fun, maybe it’s time to try something different...

How about shopping or hit the beaches or maybe even explore some of the ancient ruins?

This is one of the things I love about holidays in El Salvador… you can explore ancient ruins in the morning, visit modern museums or malls in the afternoon and end up at the beach at night, now that is fun!
