Salvadorian food is delicious, there isn't anything better than enjoying a nice meal with tamales or pupusas with a nice cold glass of horchata...
OK, now that I have your attention, let's talk about some of the best places to find delicious Salvadorian food.

True, you can find delicious food in El Salvador every where you go, but there are some restaurants in San Salvador that offer outstanding El Salvador foods accompanied by great service and friendly staff. I will list here some of the places that we have visited and have really enjoyed enough to recommend to you. Café de Don Pedro:Any time you want pure Salvadorian food, this is one of the best places to go. Café de Don Pedro has been around for a long time, and is a great place to go with your family or friends, I remember going to this restaurant when we were still living in El Salvador. They have everything, but they specialize in El Salvador foods like pupusas, tamales, empanadas, chorizos and more. But they also have delicious traditional Salvadorian breakfasts which would include ground red beans, sausages, eggs rancheros, plantains and of course a delicious cup of Salvadorian grown coffee. There are 6 different locations, so don’t worry, you can even stop by their Comalapa Airport location before you board your flight! - Roosevelt: 39 Ave. Norte & 2 Calle Oriente, San Salvador.
(503) 2260-2012 - Autopista Norte: Final Autopista Norte, Colonia El Refugio # 8, San Salvador. (503) 2225-4184
- Comalapa International Airport: Gate 44, (503) 2339-9205
- Ciudad Merliot: 17 Ave Norte & Calle Chiltiupán – opposite to Plaza Merliot shopping center. (503) 2288-4334
- El Trebol: Blvd Merliot & Carretera Panamericana, El Trebol shopping center, San Salvador. (503) 2278-6100
- Soyapango: Km. 4.5 on Blvd del Ejercito, San Salvador. (503) 2277-1737
Los Tercios: This is a nice little place that you can find at the food court in Las Cascadas shopping center (503) 2243-1685. Their prices are ridiculously low – lunches go between $2.00 and $2.50 for a big lunch if you are really hungry! Their rellenos de guisquil and stuffed green peppers are super delicious; I also like their great selection of fresh fruit drinks. No matter what you try at this place, you can’t go wrong.
El Sopón Típico: This is great place to go with your friends and family and make sure you are starving when you go, because the food will just keep coming… They have the best selection of Salvadorian soups, sopa de gallina india, de pollo, de garrobo, mondongo, frijoles, etc. I tried the mondongo soup, and it was one of the best I ever had. But you can also get some appetizers or “antojitos” like yuca frita, chicharrones, enredos, empanadas, cuajada with tortillas and… a lot more. - Los Heroes: Urb. Florida, Ave Las Palmeras # 130, Blvd de los Heroes, (503) 2260-2671
- Escalón: 1 Calle Poniente & 71 Ave norte #3702, Colonia Escalón, just behind Galerías Escalón shopping center. (503) 2298-3008
Típicos Margoth: This is an excellent place to go if you want to try a little bit of everything. The best time to go is in the afternoon when they have their “tardes tipicas y antojitos” time. With a great atmosphere and friendly staff, it makes you feel relaxed so you can enjoy the food. They have everything from yuca frita, empanadas to pupusas with lorocos, ayote and also pupusas made from rice flour. These are my favourites – pupusas de arroz with red beans…. delicious! Another thing that is really good here is the Pan con Pavo (turkey sandwich), but this is not just any turkey sandwich – this is a Salvadorian turkey sandwich – you got to try it! Oh, and the prices… everything is very inexpensive at this place, you end up eating a lot without spending too much. - Merliot: Calle Chiltiupán #25-26, Colonia Jardines de Merliot. (503) 2289-2201
- Escalón: 77 Ave Norte & Pasaje Istmania # 272, Colonia Escalon, San Salvador. (503) 2263-3340
- Puerto de La Libertad: Hwy to Puerto de La Libertad, Km 10 1/2 (503) 2229-8258
- Plaza Merliot location: Plaza Merliot # L-202, San Salvador. (503) 2288-8639
