Surfing in El Salvador is becoming more and more popular, and if you are really into surfing and want a beach almost to yourself, then you must head to San Miguel and hit Las Flores beach, Punta Mango, La Vaca and El Toro.

El Cuco Beach

If you are not into surfing, then El Cuco is for you, by far one of the most popular beaches in eastern El Salvador. El Cuco beach has soft waves, dark sands which make it perfect for activities like swimming, kayaking, water skiing and just strolling down the beach.

It’s always a very popular beach but even more so on the last Sunday of November when the carnival has come to an end and the locals head for the beach to bring all the festivities to a close.

Altos De La Cueva in San Miguel El Salvador

A family oriented outdoor swimming pool complex, whether you are into swimming or just want to spend an easy afternoon in a natural setting – this is the place to go in San Miguel.

The swimming pools have water slides and the pools are actually fed from natural springs – so you can’t really go wrong with that!

The complex has some little cabanas that you can rent for the day, the cabanas have everything you may need to spend a fun day there including a couple of hammocks.

The beautiful colonial architecture stands out in the old area of San Miguel. You can visit the Municipal Palace that now houses the city hall.

The theater Francisco Gavidia is also worth a visit with amazing neo-classic vestiges and a touch of French architecture.

There is also the Regional Museum in San Miguel, where the stunning black obsidian is on display. It's believed to be the biggest sample of the jewel to be on display in El Salvador - it sure is an amazing jewel.

With so much to do in San Miguel, it's a good idea to be based right in the city and from there go to all the places you want to visit.
